New experiences and environments inspire Upson and his Character Design practice extends to the worlds of music & fashion.
In 2020, Upson introduced the world to a few of his alter-egos. Through the series, “NoT hEre, SOMe pLAcE ElSe”, he set out to invite all into the world of one of these alter-egos, Don Pepe. According to the artist, it (the body of work) feels like a story that’ll never end. Don Pepe is an expression of his other lives when he is not playing the role of Artist.
"Naming this series, “NoT hEre, SOMe pLAcE ElSe”, was a bit challenging because I feel it is a story that’ll never end. It is an expression of my other lives when I am not playing the role of Upson the Artist; it is when I am someplace else. I see it as the first chapter of a story that is still being written."
