Idris Abdulwahab Nigerian, b. 1994

Idris Abdulwahab (b. 1994) is a UK-born Nigerian visual artist. He currently
resides and works in Abuja, Nigeria. Idris embarked on his artistic journey while in secondary school, where he was an art student with a special interest in Arabic studies. During his formative years, he explored Arabic calligraphy, practicing various styles and scripts on paper with ink.

Over time, Idris's practice has evolved into a more contemporary approach, fusing traditional and digital drawing and painting techniques. Idris’s work is a compelling exploration of Arabic calligraphy and scripts, which hold a rich historical context in Islamic art and cultures.

Inspired by his upbringing in Zaria, he takes these traditional elements and applies a
contemporary twist, using abstract and contemporary mediums to explore the interplay between scripts, interpretation, color fields, and texture. This exploration is realized in the creation of new forms, resulting in a distinctive and unique artistic style.
