In his 43-year career, Abiodun Olaku’s work captures the beauty and simplicity of Nigerian urban life through cityscapes and landscapes from bustling streets and market scenes to serene nature.

Renowned for his mastery of realism, one of the hallmarks of Olaku’s style is his extraordinary use of light and shadow, creating a sense of depth and atmosphere, and showcasing meticulous detailing in his paintings.

As a young artist, he studied under the guidance and mentorship of Professor Yusuf Grillo who described him as “Primus inter pares” (a Latin phrase meaning a first among equals).

Today, as a mentor to many noteworthy emerging Nigerian artists, Olaku’s contribution to the Nigerian contemporary art scene is one of relentless passion and a craft that has morphed beautifully over the years.
