Musa Ganiyy O. (b. 1993) is a Lagos-based painter, illustrator, and photographer whose work pulses with the vibrant energy of his city. A 2014 graduate of the University of Lagos, Ganiyy’s art is a vivid chronicle of marginalized voices, capturing the richness of the human experience through bold portraits, dynamic landscapes, and figurative pieces infused with sharp, thought-provoking text.
Inspired by a childhood fascination with sci-fi films and comic books, Ganiyy’s style is a fusion of bright, expressionistic colors and a keen eye for the unspoken stories of everyday life. His pieces tackle identity, satire, and social justice, highlighting underreported issues, emotions, and memories. Growing up in one of Lagos’s underserved communities has profoundly shaped his vision, fueling his exploration of community dynamics and the beauty found in the everyday.
Ganiyy has made his mark with standout solo exhibitions like Wired and Unwired at Windsor Gallery (Abuja and Lagos, 2024) and To Grand Bassam and Endless Whispering Waves at Dida Gallery (Abidjan, 2023). His work has also been featured in numerous group shows across Nigeria and abroad, underlining his dedication to amplifying diverse stories through his vibrant, layered artistry.
