Just as the blue ocean waves steal the brown of the beach, so is the space in between. The space of moments, intimacy, and experiences that are now memories. It is in this fragile space that memories linger, intimacy is etched and fleeting experiences turn into the echoes of time.
"Echoes of the In-Between" is a three- layered journey with Fiyin Koko, Sola Olulode and Falida Nkomo into the archive of memories and fragments of time - not fixed or linear, but fluid, tangled, and constantly remade.
Fiyin Koko employs the blue stain of cyanotype prints and miniature sculptures to take you on a journey of her heartache and self recovery. Her works become journal entries, leaving echoes of pain, healing, and friendship.
Sola Olulode uses expressionist figures to immerse you into a boundless and temporal space of intimacy, and the warmth of queer love rooted in her personal and communal experience. Her works draw you to the celebratory experience of the queer Black woman and embraces a love that resists erasure.
Falida Nkomo uses the earthy hues of mono type prints to tell a tale of self - discovery in the midst of migration inspired by her family’s archive. Nkomo’s works are imprints of movement and return, echoing the emotional weight of longing and finding a space of familiarity.
More than a wall of compelling visual narratives, Echoes of the in Between is an invitation to the sensibilities of passing time.
Welcome to the echoes - an intimate chorus of the in between of what was, was it, and what is to become.
